A Scientific Explanation of Energy Healing
Energy healing has become a popular way to improve your health and wellness, but is there any science to back up this practice? It turns out that science does back up the effectiveness of energy healing.
A study conducted in 2013 by researchers from the University of Arizona found that 10 minutes of energy healing was as effective as a 10-minute physical therapy manipulation. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24327820)
That particular study didn’t look at the mechanism by which this type of therapy works. However, many scientists have put forth theories. Bruce Lipton, a cell biologist and professor at the National Institutes of Health, Stanford University, and the University of Wisconsin suggests that quantum physics can help us understand energy healing.
He suggests that when two energy sources become entangled with one another, they affect each other. And this effect can be positive or negative. With energy healing the interaction becomes positive and can lead to healing. This concept in physics is known as “entanglement”.
While it may seem abstract in energy healing, there are some examples of how this works that are more concrete. For example, when heart cells are cultured in a Petri dish, they will all begin to beat in the same rhythm even if they are not touching.
Their proximity is enough to share the energy fields and begin to beat in unison. This also happens with pendulums that begin moving at different times. Eventually they will all begin to swing at the same time.
With energy healing a practitioner is working on a client, their energy becomes entangled and the practitioner can work to create a positive connection that leads to peace, relaxation, and healing.
In order for this to work the client also has to be open to the experience so that the energy work can be done. And what’s even more interesting, you don’t even need to be in the same physical space for the energy entanglement to occur.
Energy healing can be practiced in many different ways. Acupuncture, reiki, and Qigong Qi are all examples of using energy to create harmony in the body. They work in different ways, but all depend on improving the energy systems of the body to improve wellness.
If you’re interested in harnessing the power of energy healing, it helps to have a practitioner to guide you through the process. However, you can also participate in activities such as meditation practicing gratitude to begin to draw more positive energy into your life.
